OKARA, May 23: The Anjuman-i-Mozareen Punjab led by its secretary-general Mehr Abdul Sattar has demanded that the government must constitute a judicial commission to probe into the cases registered against some tenants. This was demanded in a press release issued on Monday by the AMP, which is continuing with its protests in some of the Military Farms villages for the release of two tenants Muhammad Saleem and Haji Muhammad Latif.
The AMP would continue the protest till the release of the two tenants, the press release added, saying its struggle for land ownership rights for the tenants would end only with the achievement of its objective.
Mr Sattar also clarified that the AMP had nothing to do with the recent statements by a group of tenants threatening administration to take police personnel hostage.
The AMP’s struggle for tenant rights should not be portrayed as confrontation with local administration as it was in no position to do so and it would never take hostage the law enforcers.
The protest gatherings were lead by AMP chairman Liaqat Ali, district vice-presidents Muhammad Altaf, Muhammad Ramzan and Muhammad Shahbaz.
On the other hand, leader of a group of tenants Younis Iqbal Masih, and AMP’s information secretary David Zahid have said that they were ready to accept government’s offer pertaining to alternative agricultural land and residences for the tenants.
Saying they would welcome Defence Minister Rao Sikander Iqbal at their office in 10/4L village for dialogue, they accused the government representatives of spoiling many opportunities of resolving the issue.
