KARACHI: Human rights activists and labour leaders have lauded an initiative by Pakistan Navy for extending help to some Indian fishermen in the open sea.
On Sunday, Pakistan Navy Ship Alamgir, an Oliver Hazard Perry Class Frigate, while conducting Maritime Security Operations in the Gulf of Aden undertook a successful rescue operation of a stranded Indian fishing dhow St Mary’s.
The navy personnel provided medical aid and food instantly to the trapped Indian fishermen in the sea on humanitarian basis.
In a joint statement issued on Monday, Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research executive director Karamat Ali, Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum chairperson Mohammad Ali Shah, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan vice president Asad Butt and labour leader Habibuddin Junaidi appreciated this effort. This would definitely have an impact on the political relationship between Pakistan and India, it said.
