THIS country will touch the ‘absolute scarcity’ level of water by 2025, which is seven years from now. If we do not mend our ways, nothing can stop our land from turning into a parched desert. The urgent need is for a futuristic water conservation policy as well as the construction of more water storage facilities throughout the country.

However, instead of waiting for the government to do something, let us join hands to do our bit for this pressing national cause. We can begin by turning off water taps and showers while brushing our teeth, applying soap and shampoo while bathing, or while washing our hands; ensure that all leaking taps, flush systems and pipes are fixed immediately; water outdoor plants only in early morning; install commodes and WCs that consume less water, or insert two small bricks in flush tanks so that they take less water.

A save water campaign is the need of the hour.
