KHAR: Bajaur Super League cricket tournament kicked off at the sports complex here on Tuesday.

Pak Army’s Sector Commander (north) Brig Amir Kiani inaugurated the tournament. Arranged by a group of local people, the opening ceremony was attended by tribal elders, political activists, youths, cricket fans and players in large number.

Speaking on the occasion, Brig Kiani said security forces were making efforts to improve living standard of people of militancy-hit tribal areas by launching mega development schemes in the region.

After restoration of peace in the tribal region, the security forces have now focused on development activities to boost the socio-economic status of the tribesmen, he said.

Officials of the political administration and security forces, including political agent Abdul Amir Khattak and Commandant Bajaur Scouts Col Rahman Qadar, were also present.

Students of various schools displayed gymnastics and taekwondo skills, receiving appreciation from the spectators.

Brig Kiani welcomed the cricket tournament in the agency, saying that holding of such activities was imperative to promote peace in the region.

On the occasion, political agent Amir Khattak said sports were necessary to promote tolerance and harmony among the people, especially the youths.

Bajaur Super League chairman Eng Bahdar Khan briefed the participants about the significance of the event and said the aim of the tournament was to provide an opportunity of entertainment to the people and to exploit players’ talent.
