LAHORE: West Pakistan Finance and Information Minister, Syed Ahmad, Saeed Kirmani, yesterday [April 22] inaugurated an exhibition on war paintings at the Burnes Garden here.

Over three dozen paintings are on display which include portraits of 1965 War heroes and recipients of “Nishan-i-Haider” and other gallantry awards like Maj. Tufail Shaheed, Capt. Sarwar Shaheed, Maj. Aziz Bhatti Shaheed and Brig. Ahsan Rasheed Shami.

Some paintings depict Pakistani soldiers in action on different fronts and the Pakistan Air Force attacking enemy installations.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Kirmani praised the efforts of the Pakistan Artists’ Association for organising the exhibition and said that for artists it was the best way to remind the nation of the deeds of glory performed by their heroes. He said painting was a great art to transform past into present.

The Minister said that it was the duty of the artists to publicise the deeds of valour and glory of national heroes through their works so that the coming generations should follow the examples of those who laid down their lives in defending the country.

Mr Kirmani also gave away medals to artists for best works. The recipients were: Mukhtar Rashi (Capt. Sarwar Shaheed Medal), Ahmad Asif (Maj. Tufail Shaheed Medal) Saifuddin Moghal (Maj. Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Medal), Miss Lai Rukh (Brig. Shami Shaheed Medal) and Miss Rukhsana (Sq. Ldr. Sarfraz Rafiqui Shaheed Medal). — Agency
