SIALKOT: An alleged acid attack victim died of her wounds late on Sunday after remaining under treatment at Lahore’s Mayo Hospital for six days.

Domestic worker Asma Maseeh, 25, was laid to rest in her native graveyard in Hajipura on Monday. A large number of people belonging to the Christian community attended her funeral.

On April 18, Muhammad Rizwan had allegedly thrown acid on Asma in the Pakpura locality upon her refusal to marry him citing their different faiths. She was shifted to Mayo Hospital in Lahore in critical condition due to non-availability of a burns unit at Govt Allama Iqbal Memorial Teaching Hospital here.

According to the doctors, 90 per cent of Asma’s body had suffered acid burns. Civil Lines police registered a case against Rizwan and arrested him.

Asma’s family alleged that police were according VIP protocol to the suspect in custody. They claimed Rizwan was influential politically and police were adopting delaying tactics in the case.

The family demanded justice from Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Inspector General of Police Arif Nawaz and District Police Officer Asad Sarfraz Khan by taking stern action against the culprit.

Meanwhile, the Christian community staged a demonstration against the acid attack on Asma and demanded justice for her.
