ISLAMABAD, May 21: Muttahidda Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) is hopeful of launching a joint struggle for democracy along with the ARD. The MMA deputy parliamentary leader, Hafiz Hussain Ahmed, said Saturday that MMA was hopeful of launching a joint struggle.

“We are in touch with ARD leadership. I am sure the opposition would soon evolve joint strategy to ensure restoration of 1973 Constitution and rule of law, he said.

He termed the military rule as major threat to flourishing of democracy. He said democracy can’t flourish in military rule.

Hafiz Hussain Ahmed vowed to continue protest against both offices of the President Gen Pervez Musharraf.

“President’s military uniform was a major threat to democracy and he should quit his both offices” MMA leader said.

Hafiz termed presidency of a serving general a major hurdle towards restoration of genuine democracy and transfer of power to an elected civilian government in the country.—-PPI
