PTI chairman names and shames party members who 'sold votes' in Senate polls

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan announced on Wednesday that the party was taking action against 20 lawmakers for "participating in horse trading" during the Senate elections last month.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, the PTI chief said that the party will give the accused a chance to explain before their names are forwarded to the National Accountability Bureau.

Khan claimed that PTI, by expelling nearly "30 per cent of its leaders", was "truly protecting the sanctity of the vote" and wondered if other political parties will follow suit.

The names of the PTI lawmakers who are suspected by the party leadership of "selling their votes" include:

"This is not the first time lawmakers have taken part in horse trading," Khan said. "This has been happening for the past 30 or 40 years."

The PTI chief said that the accused lawmakers had received as much as Rs40 million each and added that the party will issue a show-cause notice to them.

Khan lauded other members of his party who "resisted the temptation" to take large sums of money offered to them by other parties.

Last month, Dawn.com had learned that at least 17 PTI lawmakers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa allegedly sold their votes during the Senate election enabling two PPP candidates to be elected to the Senate from the province where the PPP only has seven MPAs.

An initial investigation ordered by KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak into alleged horse-trading had revealed that at least 17 ─ and as many as 20 ─ PTI MPAs in KP had voted for candidates outside the party, sources in CM House Peshawar and Bani Gala had told DawnNewsTV.

Strongly disagree with Imran Khan by forcing party member to obey him and his party. before taking any final decision make sure whether they voted according to their free well or were paid paid. if they voted according to their free well than listen they came to assembly by the votes of the people not by party. if they don't trust their party member why are they in the party. before participating in upcoming election kindly do internal party election.

Review the names of the people and you will notice these are the ones not promised any tickets in future and were most likely opportunists who utilized the reserved quota seats. As a result, even kicking them out of the party will not be difficult. In fact these people gave IK a chance at twisting the entire story and look good in the eyes of the simple-minded people. It's exactly like how IK joined hands with PPP in senate. Is he going to fire himself for suggesting and permitting his party members for performing undemocratic deeds? If someone wants to do a PhD in politics and bank on every move cleverly while painting a positive picture of every negativity about him for the unsuspecting simple and emotional people of Pakistan, then one must follow Imran Khan.

A very balanced and positive decision.In democratic norms,members have moral responsibility to toe the party line.Unless,party leadership makes a terrible choice and members are bothered by their conscience.In this case,the goal is to make money.If Khan can throw these skunks out of party & make them an example that would be a great and a unique case in Pakistani politics. This is the change expected that PTI lef government will surely bring. Imran Khan should also try to inform the nation the party name and the middlemen involved in purchasing the consciouses of the voters. Very correct and bold move by Imran Khan. There can't be any two opinions about the same. Will the ECP also take notice of the malpractices incurred in the buying of votes for the senate. Can't they take action against the elected senate members who paid money to get elected? Can they be deseated and send behind bars for their bribe offerings? And can't the party chiefs who negotiated for en-mass purchasing of votes for their members be called for their roles and punished accordingly.

Now Imran khan has accepted that his party candidate were involved in horse trading of Senate election. It is not clear if they did so in the individual capacity or on someone directed them to do so. Anyway now chief justice should investigate this when he is taking action for all political decisions. And fresh and fair election for senate should be called.

@Khan That's why its a SHOW CAUSE Notice which means to come forward, explain & provide clarification. Senate election did not happen yesterday. After Election, there was tons of internal investigation and work done before these show cause notices were given by the party today. Do you really believe that Votes/Electable are not being bought during senate election? If believe that, there is no need to discuss it with you. Either you are too naive or biased to believe in authenticity of Senate or any election process in Pakistan. Its takes guts to do what Imran Khan has done! No party can dare to do what he has done! I just hope that People of Pakistan can really take advantage of this great leader and the vision that he has!

Congratulations to Imran Khan! This is indeed a right step in the right direction. Frauds of any type , especially in the matter of elections, must be eliminated. I wonder if the other political parties will act accordingly to stop corrupt people from marketing the votes. Here PTI is a winner and the intellectuals, writers, and media houses must encourage such bold initiatives. However, it requires moral courage and sense of belonging to the country.

His MPAs sold votes and he gave all of his unsold votes to the buyer for free. At least some of his members could damage PPP financially. Now why to 'shame' them as IK did something worse than them. And who will account for the bought votes for his senator from punjab Ch Sarwar? Or does IK want to suggest that buying votes is OK but selling is not?

I think they should make the votes public after ]elections to take care of such issues and ban all votes from the parliamentarians who have either left party before elections or have been kicked out of the party on whose mandate they were selected to the assembly.

In such a case all those elected senators who were voted or not voted by them should be removed from being Senators. And votes handed over to Zardari must also be taken into account. Senate Chairman or Deputy Chairman are not these office bearers after these confessions. Think logically. It means new senators are not the Senators unless this thing is probed. Biggest Corrupt practice. These were the elections of upper house.
