TAXILA: A state-of-the-art e-library has started functioning in Attock aimed at promoting reading and research among students.

Librarian Mrs Rukhsana Akhter while talking to newsmen on Tuesday said that the Punjab government had initiated the e-libraries projects in 20 Punjab districts. The libraries were basically designed to attract more readers and to make the provision of data hassle-free, she added.

She was of the view that even for more detailed and in-depth research, the libraries would provide access to intricate material without any licensing restrictions, associated costs and free of copyright.

She said Information Technology Board Punjab was setting up e-libraries in various cities. Thirty laptops including 15 tablets have been made available in this e-lib to facilitate the visitors of all groups particularly students, she said.

The e-library would have a comprehensive database comprising thousands of authentic books, magazines and other publications.

She said special courses would be arranged for the students especially during summer vacation.

She said there would be a sports department which would organise special lectures related to different games to motivate young lot to start healthy activities along with education.

E- Rozgaar training would also be given to the aspirants, she said. She said, this initiative would assist the youth in earning their livelihood and sustainable income in a respectable manner.

While replying to a question Mrs Jamila said everyone would have access to the library and said this e-Library has an auditorium for combined creative activities that could accommodate up to 40 people.
