GENEVA, May 18: The United Nation’s top human rights official on Wednesday urged an independent probe into the violence in eastern Uzbekistan last week, saying she was deeply concerned about reports of killings by security forces. UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour urged Uzbekistan to adhere to international rules governing the use of force by law enforcement officials, after witnesses said hundreds of protesters were shot dead by government forces.—Reuters
