COLOMBO, May 18: Sri Lanka’s star sprinter Susanthika Jayasinghe will not take part in the upcoming world championships due to a shin injury, her husband announced here on Wednesday. “She needs to rest for at least a year as the fracture (on her left shin) will take a long time to heal,” said Dhammika Nandakumara, who also coaches her.

Jayasinghe, 30, will miss the world championships in Helsinki in August and also the Asian championships in South Korea in September.

A former world championship silver medallist, Jayasinghe won a 200 metres bronze at Sydney five years ago to end a 52-year drought in the Olympics for her country.—AFP
