SHANGLA: Fire caused by electricity short circuit gutted a two-storey house at Pir Khan area of Kana tehsil here on Friday, police said.

They said that when the fire erupted in the 21-room house of one Sabz Ali the local people brought the goods out of it and started efforts to bring the blaze under control.

However, the fire engulfed the entire house when it touched the second floor, largely made of wood.

Local people said that the house was completely gutted though they and fire tenders brought the fire under control, but it was too late. However, no casualty was reported.

MALALA COLLEGE: Deputy commissioner, Shangla, Tashfeen Haider visited the girls college built with the support of Malala Fund in Bar Kana, the native town of Nobel laureate and education activist Malala Yousafzai.

Mr Haider visited the Khpal Kor Model School and College, which was built by Malala Yousafzai for the local girls as Shangla district did not have any such college. Principal of the college Sajid Shah briefed the DC about different sections of the college.

Meanwhile, speakers at a function held at the government primary school, Butyal, demanded of the government to establish more schools in the city as about 1,400 children were studying in this school.

District councillor from Maira, Mohammad Hayat, was chief guest on this occasion and gave away prizes to the position-holder students of the annual school examinations. Other speakers also urged the government to build more schools in the region.
