KARACHI, May 18: On the directive of Sindh Governor and Adviser Local Government, the Saddar Town administration launched beach cleaning drive on Wednesday. Over 400 sanitary and other staff removed garbage and refuse with the help of necessary machinery from Sindbad to Sheerin Jinnah Colony.

On the occasion, Saddar Town Nazim Mohammed Farooq Fariya observed that mangroves were fast diminishing due to growing insanitation and sea pollution while the beauty of beaches was badly affected due to lack of proper care.

In order to overcome such a situation, he said that every individual and organization would have to play full-fledged role so that a healthy and hygienic environment was provided to beach visitors.

Farooq Fariya pointed out that the direct release of sewage into sea had caused great danger to marine life resulting in decline of the production of fish and shrimps bringing hardships to fishing industry.

He said that Saddar Town administration would carry out publicity campaign through print and electronic media to highlight awareness regarding importance of beach and its cleanliness.

Town Municipal Officer Raza Abbas Rizvi said that the town administration would hold seminars and declamation contests in educational institutions with the cooperation of NGOs to achieve far reaching results of the cleanliness campaign.

He said that the administration would construct separate toilets for men and women visiting the beach and also provide shady benches besides providing a large number of dustbins.

Raza Abbas said that this cleanliness campaign would be carried out regularly once a week.

Town Infrastructure Officer Hidayatullah Shah, DTO Health Mohammed Shakil Siddiqi, and other officials were also present on the occasion. —APP
