DADU, May 17: Residents of around one dozen villages of the Dadu taluka staged a protest rally in the Phulji station town on Tuesday to protest against disconnection of power supply to their areas for 15 days. They marched through roads and streets and held a demonstration outside the press club for three hours.

They were led by Allahabad Union Council Nazim Baban Khan Panhwar, Naik Mohammad Panhwar, Ghulam Ali Khoso and Amir Bux Channa.

They alleged that the SDO, Hesco Dadu-II sub-division, disconnected power supply to the villages, including Allahabad, Sher Khan Kalhoro, Mevo Khan Khoso, Haji Khan Memon, Lakha, Soomro and Birhamani, after villagers refused to pay him Rs100,000 as bribe.

They said the villagers had been paying their power bills regularly.

They appealed to Federal Water and Power Minister Liaquat Ali Jatoi and the Wapda chairman to direct the Hesco chief executive to take action against the SDO and restore electricity supply to the villages.

GUTTED: Houses of Khalid Hussain, Walan Mohakamuddin, Saleh, Abdul Hakeem and Naseer Chandio were gutted when a fire broke out in the Bali Shah village, Mehar taluka, on Tuesday.

Five goats were killed and 100 maunds of wheat was burnt in the fire.

The cause of the fire could not be ascertained.

KILLED: A villager, Khuda Bux Chandio, 60, was axed to death by seven people over an old enmity in the Mevo Chandio village in the Khairpur Nathan Shah taluka on Sunday.
