SUKKUR, May 17: The district police have not yet arrested anyone involved in an armed attack on Jail Colony, situated in front of the Sukkur Central Prison-I, on Monday night. Police, Rangers and Frontier Constabulary personnel on Tuesday took positions in the colony and around the jail and adopted precautionary measures to avert any further attack on the jail and the colony.

Sources said Prisons DIG Ghulam Hussain Khoso had received a letter from outlaws that they would again attack the jail if certain jail officials were not transferred and items recovered from inmates during search operations were not returned. The outlaws warned the jail authorities that if they did not fulfil promises they had made during negotiations with prisoners, they would attack the jail and houses of the jail staff.

Jail superintendent Ashiq Hussain Bozdar confirmed by telephone that the letter had been found by Rohri

TPO Manzoor Sangri last night in front of the house of the prisons DIG. He also confirmed that the letter was addressed to the DIG.

He said police, Rangers and other law-enforcement agencies had tightened security around the colony and the central jail and established six pickets in the area. He said a heavy force with APC had been deployed outside the house of the DIG.
