LAHORE, May 17: The Punjab government has taken a serious notice of the announcements and commitments being made by some district and tehsil nazims regarding development schemes to be launched during the next fiscal year in their areas, directing them to refrain from doing so.

In a directive on Tuesday, Local Government Minister Raja Basharat directed them to refrain from announcing schemes for which funds had not be earmarked in the current budget.

He said some nazims were making the announcements to get political mileage in the forthcoming local polls. Such public announcements were likely to impact public perception apart from causing serious financial implications during the next year.

The minister said the nazims should only start the schemes that could be completed during the current fiscal year.
