100 students charged under ATA

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, May 17: More than 200 students of the Gomal University were arrested for demonstrating on the campus on Monday, officials said. DIG of Dera Ismail Khan, Zulfikar Cheema, told Dawn on Tuesday that more than 200 students allegedly involved in burning vehicles and ransacking the vice-chancellor’s office during a protest demonstration had been arrested, and search was continuing for others.

The demonstrators, who had been protesting against killing of a fellow student, damaged college property and burnt vehicles, the official said.

The DIG said that cases against more than 100 students had been registered under Anti-Terrorism Act.

Meanwhile, the university have been closed for five days.
