RAWALPINDI, May 17: President Gen Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday stressed the need for the provision of speedy and inexpensive justice to the people. He called for expeditious implementation of all facets of the Access to Justice Programme, in remarks he made while presiding over a meeting that reviewed the progress of the programme.

The president also highlighted the need for the provision of an environment conducive to the redressal of public grievances and adoption of modern techniques for the purpose.

The secretary, Law, informed the meeting that the Access to Justice Programme would have positive impact on the subordinate judiciary through case inventories and targeted intervention of cases, improved monitoring, better working conditions and regular sharing of judicial statistics.

The participants of the meeting included Minister for Law, Wasi Zafar, National Reconstruction Bureau (NRB) Chairman Daniyal Aziz, chief secretaries of the provinces and other senior government functionaries.—APP
