SAHIWAL: A fire erupted in the engine of Night Coach Express near Dad Fatyana railway station on Monday.

Rescue 1122 firefighters took 50 minutes to put off the fire while train traffic remained suspended on Lahore-Khanewal section for four hours.

Train driver Muhammad Afzal Husain said the Karachi-to-Lahore train’s engine caught fire. The fire started in the motor section of the locomotive.

He said the fire did not reach the oil tank, otherwise that would have been a calamity.

Rescue personal told Dawn no injury was reported.

A new engine later took the train to its destination.

ROAD CRASH: A woman and her daughter were killed and four other people injured when a tractor-trolley and a three-wheeler collided head-on in Chichawatni on Monday.

Deceased were identified as Tahira (35) and her daughter Noor Fatima, of 107/12-L. Rescue 1122 shifted the bodies and other injured passengers Ramzan (driver), Maria Bibi, Muhammad Amir and Iqbal. The tractor driver fled. Chichawatni Sadar police registered a case.

FOUND KILLED: An education department employee was found shot dead in village 78/5-L on Monday. Zulqarnain (26), of 73/5-L, went to his mother’s grave in 78/5-L on Sunday night. On Monday, he was found dead in the graveyard.

The police said he got bullets in his chest and head.

The police shifted the body for autopsy to the Sahiwal District Headquarters Hospital.
