KARACHI, Jan 7: Pakistan’s Safeer Khan and Farhan Mehboob won the titles in their age groups of the British Open junior squash championship, message from Sheffield, UK, said Monday.
Eleven Pakistani players participated in various age categories and won Under-17 and Under-15 titles.
Pakistan last week swept three titles in the Scottish Open juniors under the training of Rehmat Khan, a former coach of legendary Jahangir Khan.
Safeer Khan beat countryman Khalid Atlas in a one-sided final, winning 9-6, 9-5, 9-2. Safeer had also won the Under-17 title at the Scottish Open.
Pakistan’s Yasir Butt however failed to emulate his Scottish Open triumph as he lost a hard fought final to compatriot Farhan Mehboob.
Mehboob, who lost the Scottish Open final to Butt, came through after a keen tussle that resulted in five games. Mehboob finally won 7-9, 9-1, 9-4, 8-10, 9-4.
Pakistan’s Majid Khan lost in the semifinal of Under-19 event against top seed Englishman James Willstrop. Willstrop beat countryman Peter Barker 9-6, 9-5, 9-4 to won the title.—SADA
PESHAWAR: Chief of the Air Staff Open Junior International squash tournament is commencing from Jan 28 to 31st at PAF Squash Complex here.
It is expected that players from various countries will vie for top slot in the tournament.
The qualifying rounds will be held on Jan 26 and 27 as the tournament will also carry Under-13, Under-15, Under-17, and Under-19 categories.
All the interested Pakistanis players have been asked to report for entries before Jan 22 to the organising secretary Wing Commander Parveiz Saeed Mir.—APP
