MIRPURKHAS, May 15: People’s Party Parliamentarians MNA Aftab Hussain Shah Jilani has condemned police action against peaceful PPP workers, office-bearers and elected representatives of the local bodies and registration of a false case against 46 of them for according welcome to District Nazim Pir Shafqat Hussain Shah Jilani.

Speaking at a press conference here on Sunday, he said the workers and office-bearers were going to welcome the district nazim voluntarily but heavy contingent of police cordoned off the area around the Jamrao canal bridge and used force to stop them.

He said SHO Sher Khan Rind used abusive languages and restored to baton charge to disperse the workers.

He said despite the hurdles and police excesses people reached the spot to accord welcome to the nazim.

He said the nazim had always worked for the welfare of masses without discrimination and praised the decision of the Sindh High Court for reinstating him.

He demanded that Sindh chief secretary, PPO and DIG should order probe into the matter.

He said a false case of raising obstruction in duty of police was lodged against 46 workers.

He said under the law police were answerable to the district nazim and if the district was not saved how protection to others could be guaranteed.

He said it was the devolution of power and government must abide by the local government laws if it was interested in running the system.

Replying to a question, he said fair and free local bodies elections could not be held under the district administration and urged higher authorities to replace it before elections.

He said the nazim of UC Jhirmiryo, Diplo taluka, was arrested for political victimization by the Anti-Corruption Establishment.
