'Bravest voice in Parliament': Twitter erupts after Farhatullah Babar's retirement from Senate

Social media erupted at the PPP as news spread that the party stalwart Farhatullah Babar has been sidelined by Co-Chairman Asif Asif Ali Zardari after his hard-hitting farewell speech in the Senate.

Twitter users lauded the the veteran politician as being courageous, conscientious and a voice for the voiceless in the upper house of the parliament.

However, others were quick to point out how the veteran politician had remained quiet over injustices carried out by his party's various stints in power in Sindh and the centre.

After PPP's 10 years in power, a period that saw ghost schools, capturing sugar mills, beating farmers, child deaths in Thar, kidnappings, extortion and over 8,000 killings in Karachi, Farhatullah Babar's conscience forces him to resign day after his term as senator ends - someone summed it up very well.

Mr. Babar what did you do in the long stint that you spent in the govt and parliament against the 'evils' that you pointed out in your speech? Atleast the judges are doing something for the oppressed rather than making grandiose speeches.

Had these remarks come on him becoming a senator then they would have carried a lot more weight then stating them one day prior to retiring after enjoying all the perks and privileges for so many years.

Spokesperson of Zardari that sums up the character of Babar. Pakistani democracy where buying seats in election rather than vote bank of humanity. Massive, massive anti corruption drive is the need of the hour starting from Nawaz/Dar/Zardari trio and trickling down to other looters. Love you Pakistan.

Well, during his entire period of senator he never raise any issue related to public interest, now at the end of his tenure he become concern about many things. Unfortunately, this is the class of politicians ruling this country for ages.
