KARACHI, May 15: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has denied reports of any understanding or agreement having reached between him and the sacked revenue minister Imtiaz Shaikh. Commenting on the reports carried by media suggesting that such an understanding had reached during a meeting chaired by PML chief Chauhdhry Shujaat Hussain at the latter’s residence in Islamabad, a spokesman for the chief minister in a statement described the reports as ‘totally false and baseless’, saying that no such meeting had been held.

The spokesman made mention of a meeting among Chaudhry Shujaat, Arbab Ghulam Rahim and Tariq Aziz, and recalled that it was decided to remove Imtiaz Shaikh from the post of general secretary of Sindh PML.

The spokesman pointed out that various cases against the sacked minister were pending before some courts. He further stated that Saira Shaikh (a cousin of Imtiaz Shaikh and daughter of a former chief engineer in irrigation department, as well as other people, had moved courts against alleged excesses and irregularities by Imtiaz Shaikh.

“If Imtiaz Shaikh does not resign from the post of secretary general of Sindh PML, then Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, being provincial party chief and chief minister, may use his discretionary powers in this regard,” the spokesman added.—PPI
