Industry told to invest in R&D

RAWALPINDI, May 14: Chairman National Engineering and Scientific Commission (NESCOM) Dr Samar Mubarakmand has emphasised on the importance of quality human resource and urged the industrialists to play their due role in patronising and promoting research in the leading educational institutions of the country.

The industry has a deep stake in the quality of manpower as this will help it stay competitive in this era of high technology. Therefore, Dr Samar asked them to invest in research and development being carried out at the university level.

“The era of manpower shopping must come to an end if we are to make progress in real sense”, he exhorted while speaking as chief guest in an open house/job fair at the College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, National University of Science and Technology (NUST), here on Saturday.

The Nescom chief said such activities would help bridge the gap between the industry and academia on the one hand and greatly help in alleviating Pakistan’s status to a developed country.

Appreciating the role of EME College, Dr Samar said it is imparting quality education to its students and contributing towards providing competent human resource which is pre-requisite for technological development.

Dr Samar said trained manpower was the key to any success.

Speaking about the importance of higher education, he said that his organization would be soon opening up six centres of excellence in leading disciplines of science and engineering in Islamabad where the students could conduct their post-doctoral research.
