BADIN: A senior leader of the Sindhiani Tehreek, Apa Saleha Gopang, died in Karachi on Thursday. She was 54.

She was injured in a road accident on Wednesday when the motorcycle she was riding along with her husband crossed a jump and slipped on the Tando Bago-Badin road near the District Jail of Badin, some 5 kilometres from here.

She was returning from Tando Bago after attending a party. She sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to Indus Hospital (Civil Hospital of Badin).

Later on, she was referred to Karachi and admitted to Jinnah Hospital where she breathed her last.

Apa Saleha joined the Sindhiani Tehreek, a sister organisation of the Awami Tehreek (AT) led by Rasool Bux Palijo, after a dispute during 1984-85 over Luari shrine. She dedicated 33 years of her life to fighting for equality and remained committed to the cause of women’s rights till death.
