VEHARI, May 13: Five people, including a woman, were killed and 20 others were injured on Friday in an accident on Multan-Lahore Road near Khanewal, some 70kms from here. A bus (JA-4765), coming from Rawalpindi, overturned after crashing into a trailer near Kabirwala when one of its tyres burst. Five people — Abdul Sattar of Kehror Pucca, Naeem, Shazia Bibi of Multan, Muhammad Ali and Rauf Shamim of Jhang died instantly while 17 other passengers sustained injuries. The injured included Pirowal UC Nazim Rao Arif Khan, Zafar Hayat, Muhammad Ramzan, Ali Hasan, Rida, Aleena, Babar Feroz, Naila, Amjad, Ashiq, Maratab Ali, Adnan, Tariq, Ateequr Rehman, Azizur Rehman and two unidentified women were admitted to Nishtar Hospital, Multan, and DHQ Hospital, Khanewal, in serious condition.

Meanwhile, two more people were killed on the same road in as many accidents on Friday.

A speeding bus (LZJ-7792) collided with a truck coming the opposite side near Kabirwala. Consequently, bus conductor Ejaz of Lahore died on the spot.

In the second incident, a Lahore-bound bus (MLD-3434) crushed to death an unidentified elderly man near Taj Toll Plaza.

Police have arrested driver Manzoor and are investigating.
