PESHAWAR: A man and his son were killed while two others were injured when assailants allegedly opened fire on a passenger bus in an apparent incident of honour killing, police said here on Saturday.

A police official said five persons opened fire on a Charsadda-bound bus near the Motorway Bridge. He identified the slain as Amer and Sher Alam, residents of Nisatta Charsadda, while Haris and Wajid were injured. The official identified the attackers as Arshad, Tariq, Sajjad, Arif and Taj Mohammad, who are residents of Badhber area of Peshawar. He said slain Amer had contracted court marriage with the daughter of accused Arshad, which was the reason behind the attack.

The police official said Amer was behind bars on charges of abduction and kidnapping and headed to his home after release from the prison along with his father and uncle when they were attacked.

He said the police were conducting raids for the arrest of the accused.

In a separate incident, the house of the chief reporter of the provincial assembly came under grenade attack on Friday night.

Police said unidentified suspects lobbed a grenade at the residence of Naseer Ahmed in Khushal Colony. However, no loss of life was reported.

A senior police official said the complainant had charged a relative identified as Mughal Azam for the attack over a property dispute.
