KARACHI, May 13: In a major development, the district coordination officer of the city government has transferred as many as seven officials of the CDGK’s local taxes department in one go.

An official order issued from the office of the DCO Karachi said these officials who were presently working in the CDGK’s local taxes department on detailment basis, have been repatriated to their parent department pending audit/inquiry.

The officials who have been transferred from the local taxes department include deputy district officer, Asif Baig, assistant district officers, Aziz Ansari, Imran Siddiqui, Irshad Lodhi, Shehanshah Hussain and inspectors Mohammad Shakir and Irshad Ahmed.

According to sources, except for deputy district officer, Asif Baig and inspector Irshad Ahmed, who are of the local taxes department, the remaining four assistant district officers and one inspector’s, belonged to different town municipal administrations and finance and planning and recoveries departments of the city government.

Sources in the CDGK said the decision of transferring such a large number of officers of one department in one go has been taken as the local taxes department has failed to achieve its current financial year’s target of recovery under the head of advertisement taxes and after a number of irregularities were found in the department.

“Already an inquiry into the affairs of the local taxes department has been ordered by the provincial local government department,” the sources added.
