MULTAN: Senior politician Javed Hashmi says Supreme Court decisions have divided the country.

“The apex court decisions should be discussed in parliament. Why the judiciary is not taking up the case of Pervaiz Musharraf? If it is daring enough, it should start hearing the case against Pervaiz Musharaf who had handed over the country to the US and trampled constitution,” he told a news conference here on Tuesday.

Recalling history, Hashmi said 1950s was the era of disqualifications. “Seventy per cent of national leadership was declared disqualified, which created a crisis of leadership and ultimately led to the division of the country. Whosoever had the potential to win the election was declared disqualified.”

He said sanctity of peoples’ vote was disgraced in the past by disqualifying elected prime ministers but now people had started raising their voice against it.

“The judiciary could not do it alone. It takes such decisions under establishment pressure,” he said, adding raising voice against the court decisions was a right and not contempt of court. He said the National Accountability Bureau had been used to victimize people in the past.

According to APP, Hashmi said the government, state institutions and politicians should introduce the narrative of unity to steer the country out of crises.

“Only popular leadership can help the government solve these problems amicably. People are with former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and will vote for the PML-N on the basis of its performance.”
