DADU, May 12: The in charge of the Dadu southern irrigation division emergency base has said 910 cusecs of water of the Manchhar Lake was released into the River Indus through the Aral Wah on Thursday. Talking to journalists, the official, Ayaz Ahmad, said the level of Manchhar had reduced to 108.8RL.

He said the water flow in the Nai Gaaj was 0.8 inches. He said the water flow in the Indus at Sukkur downstream was 37,095 cusecs of water.

The executive engineer of the irrigation division, Ishtiaq Ahmed Memon, said the water release from Manchhar would continue for two months to reduce the level of the lake to 105RL.

DEMONSTRATION: Sacked teachers of the district held a demonstration here on Thursday, demanding their reinstatement.

Led by Zubair Ahmad Palah and Lal Bux Mastoi, the protesters blocked the main road of the town.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Ahmad said 300 primary and high school teachers were appointed in 1996 on merit but they were later terminated on political basis.
