LAHORE: A retired army officer was gunned down by a motorcyclist on a busiest road near the Cavalry Bridge here on Friday evening.

Cantonment Investigation SP Dr Anoosh Masood told Dawn a bullet pierced into the chest of retired Maj Afrasyab, 60, causing his instant death.

She said the motive behind the murder and the identity of the attacker was yet to be ascertained.

The SP said Afrasyab came out of a bank and went to an unidentified man who seemed to be waiting for him on a motorcycle. After a few minutes, the man pulled out a pistol, shot at him and fled the scene. Afrasyab was shifted to a local hospital where he was declared dead.

The SP said Afrasyab, a resident of Haripur, was staying at a local hotel and running a call centre in the same area. She said the attacker didn’t take away anything – cash or mobile phone – from the deceased. Apparently it seemed that he was familiar to Afrasyab. She said the wife of the deceased army officer was settled abroad along with her children.

The police also collected CCTV footages from the cameras installed on the road to help get lead in the case.
