LAHORE, May 10: Former PML-Q president Mian Azhar on Tuesday assailed the Chaudhrys of Gujrat, saying they had the history of stabbing in the back of Mohammad Khan Junejo, Zafarullah Khan Jamali, Nawaz Sharif and him. In a press statement, he alleged that only corrupt, dishonest, land grabbers and looters of the national wealth were qualified to get a certificate from the Chaudhrys of their allegiance to the PML.

Azhar’s statement was apparently a reaction to Chaudhry Shujaat Husain’s assertion that Zafarullah Khan Jamali was not a member of the PML, and that he had quit the party after resigning as country’s chief executive.

“How many people are there to say that Jamali is not in the PML. The entire world knows that Jafar Khan Jamali was among the associates of the Quaid-i-Azam,” Azhar said.

Azhar, who had resigned as party chief after losing the 2002 election on both NA seats he had contested, said all characters involved in intrigue against him had started getting exposed. He said now in line were the corrupt and wicked elements who were abortively trying to escape.

He said had the PML genuinely been in power, those ruling the country would have been behind bars. Time was not far away, he said, when the police escorting the present leadership (as a matter of protocol) would be hunting them.
