MIRPURKHAS, May 10: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has directed irrigation and power department officials to ensure judicious distribution of water so that tail-end farmers get their share. He warned that action would be taken against the department officials if they failed to distribute water judiciously.

The chief minister was speaking at a public meeting in the Sher Khan Samejo village, 15 kilometres off Umerkot, on Monday evening.

He maintained that all farmers had a right over irrigation water and the government would ensure them this right.

Dr Rahim said he would soon visit the Umerkot district to hear grievances of people.

Sher Khan Samejo welcomed the chief minister and expressed the hope that Sindh would witness development under his leadership.

Earlier, Dr Rahim went to Rana Jagir and offered condolence to Rana Hamir Singh on the death of his cousin, Dharmendar Singh.

MPA Rajvir Singh, Syed Ghulam Rasool Shah, Faqeer Qadir Bux, Dr Harchand Rai, Harmand Singh Sodho, Inayat Ali Rahimoon, Faqeer Ilyas Rajar and others were also present on the occasion.

SHOW-CAUSE NOTICES: The Executive Engineer Hesco operation, Mirpurkhas division, Laiq Ahmed Khan, has issued explanation letters to dozens of linemen, meter readers and disconnection officials of division for not covering line losses and improving recovery.

He also transferred two line superintendents and three linemen to the other sub-divisions as a punishment.

It was learnt on Tuesday that letters were issued by the executive engineer to dozens of linemen, meter readers and disconnection officials of different sub-divisions of the division for their failure to cover line losses and improving the recovery.

Meanwhile, general secretary of the Pakistan Wapda Employees Paigham union, Mirpurkhas, has expressed grave concern over issuance of explanation letters to the lower staff of Hesco.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, he said that the recovery drive was not satisfactory due to non-approval of adjustments.

He said that higher officers were responsible for poor recovery and line losses.

He said that officers including SDOs, line superintendents and meter supervisors have more power than the lower staff and demanded of the chief executive, Hesco, to take notice of the matter and withdraw the letters.
