A medical student was shot dead in Kohat reportedly on the pretext of refusing a marriage proposal, police said on Sunday.
Asma, a third-year student at a medical college in Abbottabad, had come to see her family in Kohat during session break when the incident happened, SHO Kohat Development Authority police station Gul Janan said.
On Saturday, when Asma reached home along with her sister-in-law, Mujahid Afridi and his accomplice Sajid opened fire at her and fled the crime scene soon after, the police official said.
Asma received three bullets and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries on Sunday, SHO Janan said.
In her initial statement given at the hospital, Asma had identified Mujahid Afridi as the person who had fired at her.
DPO Kohat Abbas Majeed informed DawnNews on Sunday that a case has been registered against Mujahid Afridi under Section 324 and 302 of Pakistan Penal Code. "Police are carrying out raids to arrest the prime suspect," he added.
Meanwhile, the victim's family have informed police that the suspect is a relative of local PTI leader. The suspect wanted to marry Asma and was putting pressure on the family to accept the proposal, said police.

Shameful crime against women and children and even educated, law abiding make citizens are growing rapidly day by day in KPK. The PTI ruling party and it's influentials are in most cases backing and supporting criminals; while police here has become the servant of these corrupt rulers . There have been dozens of such cases - so called honor killings, child abuse, rape, dishonorment of people, open murder etc. In Peshawar, Kohat, Mardan, Bannu, DI Khan, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Kohistan and other districts. However, for some reasons, media is unwilling or under pressure from somebody not to highlight these crimes much, focus remains on Punjab.

This is too much. Every leader is seen busy these days pulling legs of the opponent no one really seems interested in other matters of grave concern. Free use of arms & power has become order of the day. Children and girls in particular are being targeted. Here in this case this poor girl was killed for refusing marriage. It is irony of fate when a girl accepts proposal against family will she is killed in the name of family honour likewise when she refuses marriage proposal from individual she gets killed. Unless severe punishment is given to offenders on war footing, crimes will continue.

They education system from early school level need to work on civilizing the youth. Teach them how to use their aggressive nature positively and when to control it. Law enforcement on the other hand need to make examples out of these out of control people.

The number of killings and murders we read about, everyday on issues of refused marriage proposals is shocking. No on seems to be above this heinous crime. What is wrong with Pakistan? are we becoming a nation of monsters, who do not respect the value of an innocent life. What is more shocking is the way our lawmakers and politicians keeping mum on this serious issue. They are only interested in grabbing seats in the elections at any cost. What is the earthly use of a few like me penning a few words in the daily 'rag' which the people just glance at and throw it away! So, if wee want the nation of Pakistan to survive we must quickly and expeditiously take serious steps to stem the rot. Otherwise thee is no hope for Pakistan!

A complete breakdown of society. Common people are taking law into their own hands whereas criminals have the free hand to terrorize with rape, murder, extortion and kidnapping. All this is due to politicians turning police force into personal security fiefdoms and now there is no one to protect property or people.

Everyday brutal incidents are reminding us that there is no law and order and current government either doesn't know how to or doesn't want to do anything about children sexual abuse, murders and other horrific crimes.
When criminals know that there is no effective law and order they are getting more encouraged.

I have watched many Pakistani dramas and learned there are 3 current issues facing Pakistani society: (1) Forcing some one to many someone against their will, (2) First cousin marriages, and (3) elders deciding marriages without the consultation of parties involved. These practices are against the freedom of choice. And first cousin marriages are genetically undesirable.
