KARACHI, May 9: The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Karachi, Dr Pirzada Qasim, has urged the educational institutions to hold more programmes to honour their respective teachers. He was speaking as chief guest at a function held to celebrate “Youm-i-Takrim-i-Asatiza” (Teachers’ Respect Day) at Government National College, on Saturday.

He said that teachers formed the backbone of the society and as such they should be honoured at all levels.

A number of teachers, who have taught for 25 years or more at the National College and those who excelled in academic and scholastic achievements, were presented shields at the ceremony.

In his address of welcome, the principal of National College, Prof M Rashid Hai, said that the college was successfully running BCS classes for the last three years and now was looking up to the University of Karachi for granting it the permission to conduct BBA and postgraduate classes.

He stressed the need for controlling the students’ organizations in order to create an environment congenial to education.

Others who spoke at the function included Prof Hashmatullah Lodhi, Prof Rais Alvi, Prof Sirajul Islam Bukhari, Dost Mohammad Faizi and Prof G M Solangi. The founding principal of the National College, Prof Hasan Aadil, who died on May 2, was also remembered at the meeting.

Prof Lodhi opined that administration, management and monitoring were three basic elements required for the success of an educational system.

Prof Bukhari said that National College had produced many luminaries in the past and it was hoped that the college would continue doing so in the future as well.
