PESHAWAR, May 8: NWFP Senior Minister Sirajul Haq has said that ‘American brand of enlightenment’ will not work and only Islamic system can lessen the misery of people and pave way for a just and clean society in the country. Speaking at a public meeting at Totalai village in Samarbagh tehsil, the minister said the rulers might should prove their enlightenment and broad-mindedness by giving the province its constitutional and legal right of hydroelectric power profit of Rs19 billion per annum and arrears of Rs345 billion.

He said the NWFP was facing the worst financial crunch with no major revenue sources except those grabbed by the centre.

He urged the federal government to adjust big loans of the province against its arrears of Rs345 billion to enable it to allocate its meagre resources to ameliorate the lot of the masses.

He said enlightenment required fulfilment of aspirations of people by enforcing Shariat and ensuring cheap and speedy justice. He said the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal would make Quran and Sunnat the supreme law of the country.—PPI
