Wheat crop damaged by rain

TOBA TEK SINGH, May 8: Heavy rain and hailstorm coupled with dust storm damaged the standing and harvested wheat crop in various villages in Gojra area on Saturday night. The untimely rain has also resulted in further delay of threshing of the crop. Lighting also killed a nine-year-old boy in at Chak 94-JB. Kaleem was playing in the street during the rain when the incident occurred.

Meanwhile, a farmer was crushed to death by a thresher at Chak 285-GB. Muhammad Ali was working in the field when his clothes entangled in a wheat thresher. He sustained serious injuries and died in hospital.

Ghulam Abbas was on his way to a village by his motorcycle (TSB-8915) when armed motorcyclists intercepted him near Lundoo canal bridge. They snatched cash, valuables from him and also took away his motorcycle.

ARRESTED: Rajana police arrested on Sunday a beggar for allegedly kidnapping a five-year-old girl in Chak 265-GB.

Accused Gul Sher of Jhang, begging in the village, took away Safina with him. The accused was changing her clothes outside the village when a farmer identified the girl and raised an alarm. Within no time, hundreds of villagers gathered there and overpowered the accused. He was handed over to the police. The accused reportedly confessed to his crime.
