MINGORA: The local government representatives from Matta have accused the tehsil nazim of making illegal appointments on 14 positions in tehsil municipal administration.

They have demanded of the provincial government to take notice of the issue.

Led by Dr Amjad Ali, the councillors told a press conference here on Monday that the nazim, a member of PTI and brother of Provincial Minister Mehmood Khan, created jobs in tehsil administration and August 25, 2016 was fixed as date of interview for the posts.

“On 25 August, hundreds of candidates, who had applied for the vacancies, turned up for the interview but they were told that the interview was postponed,” said Dr Amjad.

Councillors demand probe into the issue

He said that later the tehsil nazim and other councillors of PTI appointed their people on the posts without floating any advertisement.

“The upholders of merit not only appointed 14 people without following legal procedure but also changed the cadres of grades to avoid NTS tests for some positions,” he added.

Dr Amjad said that there was a proper procedure to fill the vacancies as candidates should apply through NTS. To avoid NTS and other legal procedures, the PTI nazim along with tehsil municipal administrator changed the cadres and made them equal to Class-IV, he added.

He said that PTI chief Imran Khan and Chief Minister Pervez Khattak made tall claims about merit but their own party workers and elected representatives changed rules and regulations to appoint their favourite people.

He said that over 30 per cent of the ongoing water supply schemes were not on the ground for which funds were already withdrawn.

“A councillor of PTI has gone abroad for job but he is still enjoying all privileges here in the council. The nazim does not take action against him,” said Dr Amjad.

He demanded of the chief minister, anti-corruption establishment and other relevant departments to immediately take action against the illegal appointments and initiate an inquiry into the matter.

“Till completion of inquiry, nazim and naib nazim must be suspended so that transparency is ensured,” said Dr Amjad.
