SUKKUR, May 7: The Alliance for Restoration of Democracy was struggling for the revival of the 1973 constitution and there would be no compromise on sovereignty of parliament. Speking at a press conference here on Saturday after returning from Dera Bugti, PML (N) MNAs and leaders, Ms Tehmina Daultana and Sardar Yaqub Nasir, said that the ruling generals had brought the country on the verge of dismemberment by creating condition similar to 1971.

They said that General Musharraf would not be spared and tried under Article 6 of the constitution, whenever the ARD comes into power.

To a question, Ms Daultana said that the ARD was struggling to save the system, which had almost been destabilised by the military rulers during the last five years.

She said the rulers had desperately been trying to strike a deal with Nawaz Sharif which had always been turned down by him.

She said the only role of the military was to guard the country’s frontiers and leave other matters to the elected leadership. She said that judiciary had been made subservient to the rulers’ whims adding that “General Musharraf has now realized that he would not be able to resist the will of the people, but “we will not let him go”.

Ms Tehmina said the government was spreading disinformation about Shahbaz Sharif who, she said, would never go against his elder brother

She said that ARD was very close to formation of a grand political alliance and talks were being held with the MMA and other political forces of the country.

Talking about Dera Bugti visit, she said that the rulers had ignited a fire there, which could engulf the whole of the country. Same was the practice of the rulers in Wana and Gilgit, and ARD had come out to extinguish it.

She said General Musharraf was now even afraid of addressing the parliament and was planning to send his written speech to fulfil the constitutional requirement.

MNA Sardar Yaqoob Nasir said that the rulers while begging for a settlement with India on Kashmir, had almost lost Pakistan’s case on it.

He said army did not allow any civilian government to complete its term which damaged the roots of democracy in the country.

He said the rulers adopted a negative policy in Dera Bugti and Nawab Akbar Bugti was targeted by opening direct firing on him.

He said they were shown at least three different places where Nawab Bugti was fired upon by the forces, but luckily he moved minutes before the firing.

He said neither Nawab Bugti nor the ARD visiting team members understood what the government had gained from the siege of Dera Bugti.

Earlier, Dr. Haider Ali Shah welcomed the ARD laders.
