LAHORE: The Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mian Saqib Nisar, on Wednesday summoned vice chancellors of nine public sector universities, including Punjab University, with their affidavits and details about affiliation granted to private law colleges.

The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) had filed a petition in the court for the implementation of its rules. PBC senior member Azam Nazir Tarar stated before the court that all private law colleges were bound to follow the rules made by the regulatory body but they had been violating the same.

He said the varsities had been granting affiliation to the colleges that lacked basic facilities in violation of rules.

The CJP observed the court could constitute a commission to personally visit all the law colleges to examine their standards.

He lamented that the overall standard of education had been gradually declining in the country.

The bench would formally resume hearing of the case on Jan 20 when vice chancellors of the varsities would appear in person.
