SAHIWAL, May 4: Two girls were electrocuted and at least eight people injured in separate incidents caused by rain and hailstorm on Tuesday night which also badly damaged crops in 10 villages of the district. Reports said two girls, Farzana and Muneeran, were killed when they touched a wet live electricity wire in Chak 164/9-L and Chak 182/9-L.

In another incident, roof of a house caved in because of rain, injuring Farzand Ali, Iqbal, Naveed, Ahmed Din, Dilbar Hussain, Bakhan, Rukhsana and a girl Rabia. They were admitted to a hospital.

Meanwhile, wheat and potato crops in Chak 182/9-L, 183/9-L, 184/9-L, 185/9-L, 177/9-L, 178/9-L, 175/9-L, 176/9-L, 169/9-L and 164/9-L, were damaged. The wheat crop was being harvested in these villages.

The growers in the rain-affected villages have appealed to the government for compensation and exemption from loans as their crops were hit by natural calamity.
