She walks the walk

This is downright cute and smart. At a bridal couture show in Lahore on Dec 10, everyone was eagerly waiting for the effervescent Saba Qamar’s catwalk on the ramp. She appeared and looked gorgeous. But midway on the ramp, the Hindi Medium star tripped and almost collapsed on her knees. The smart gal that she is, Saba Q didn’t let the moment embarrass her: she got up and gestured to the audience that all was okay.

She resumed the walk and gave the warmest of smiles to everyone. Well done, girl! Rise and rise …

Sarish joins the jig

Sarish Khan, the granddaughter of yesteryear heartthrob Sabiha Khanum and the star of the recently released Syed Noor film Chaen Aey Na, is gradually but surely diversifying her portfolio.

The tall and stunning Sarish K will soon be seen hosting a Bollywood dance show on television in New Jersey. The programme brings together dancers from all over America to showcase their moves and impress the judges whose names are still a closely guarded secret.

Good on you, Sarish K, break a leg. Metaphorically of course.

Vidya seeks Ijazat

Vidya Balan is one intelligent woman. She chooses films that give her the margin to perform so that she is not merely known for her charm and good looks.

Last week, when someone reminded her that she hasn’t yet worked with any of the Bollywood Khans, she replied she would love to and cited Shah Rukh Khan as her favourite. She said if paired with SRK in a movie, it should be a mature love story. The actress suggested she’d love to work in the remake in a contemporary setting of Gulzar’s ’80s masterpiece Ijazat.

What? Ijazat starring SRK and Vidya B? Puhleez no. How about Mughal-i-Azam? It would have far greater room for hamming ...

WhatsApp mishap

Technology is a two-edged sword: it can make or break relationships. In the case of comedian Kapil Sharma it has, for sure, dented his relationship with choreographer/director Farah Khan. Here’s what happened. Kapil S arranged a screening of his film Firangi for his Bollywood friends. How did he invite them? Through WhatsApp. This did not go down well with Farah K. She took to Twitter and wrote about the “mannerless” (not my word) friends who invite people through computer apps.

The comedian reacted to it by maintaining that he sent the invites whichever way he felt right, and keeping true to his comedic nature tried to return the sarcasm by hoping that his ‘big powerful friends’ would see the film later.

Hmmm … Perhaps Farah K will catch the movie on her smart phone.

Appendicitis blues

On Dec 5, singer-songwriter John Mayor was admitted to a hospital for emergency appendectomy. He was in excruciating pain when he reached the hospital and was immediately operated upon. The surgery was successful, but the musician had to put off a gig that was slated to take place in New Orleans the same day.

While we wish him a full and speedy recovery, we just hope his ex, Katy Perry, won’t be mining this incident for her next song. The Appendix That Got Away?

Royal tensions?

Boy oh boy! The tabloids are churning with commentary on the fact that, apparently, ever since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s relationship became official, Prince William’s gorgeous better half Kate Middleton has gone off the media radar.

And their rumour mills have it that barri bhabhi is a bit unhappy with all the attention that Meghan M is getting, so much so that it has been decided she will not participate in their wedding in any special role (she will be there, but just as one of the guests). But before rumour mongers get carried away, they must be reminded that one of the reasons for the ‘no special role’ thingy could be that Kate M is pregnant with her third child and is expected to deliver in March or April, and her dewar is getting married in May.

But whoever heard of banal logic coming in the way of a good story? So the tussle between the commoner and the blue-blooded begins.
