OKARA, Jan 6: At least 200 English language teachers on Sunday took out a procession against district education officer and his deputy for denying their salaries according to the revised pay- scale.

Details gathered by this correspondent revealed the protesters swarmed the local Press Club and complained that District Education Officer (elementary) Miraj Din Gill and Deputy Education Officer Chaudhry Manzoor Husain were not releasing their salaries, although, Executive District Officer (education) Syeda Rashida Shafique had given clear-cut instructions in this regard a couple of weeks back.

English Teachers Union president Muhammad Farooq and secretary Sarfraz Ali have urged the government to take stock of the situation in favour of them.

KILLED: A couple was crushed to death by a speeding car on the GT Road on Saturday.

Suleman and his wife Hafeezan were on their way back home on a bicycle when the car knocked them down near Ahmad Nagar adda, Gamber. The couple died on the spot. Driver managed to escape.

Police are investigating.
