ISLAMABAD: Subh-e-Nau has announced to revive the prestigious tennis tournaments, the Governor’s Cup and the Mayor’s Cup, from February next year in Karachi.

This was announced by Subh-e-Nau chairperson Shahida Farooq here on Monday. She said both Governor’s Cup and Mayor’s Cup had been regular events on Pakistan tennis circuit until the 1990s and here the organisation is keen to revive the tennis tradition in the metropolis.

“It was Subh-e-Nau that revived the ITF junior event in Islamabad and now we want two of the major tournaments of Karachi to resume after more than two decades,” said Shahida.

She on the occasion also congratulated Pakistan No.1 Aqeel Khan and his partner Shahzad Khan for winning the doubles title in the recently-held ITF Futures event staged in Islamabad.

“It was a great achievement by the duo as they have become the first Pakistani pair to win an ITF Futures doubles title featuring,” Shahida said.

“Aqeel has always brought pride for the country and once again he proved that age is not a factor which can undermine his skills and ability.”

She lauded the Pakistan Tennis Federation for successfully holding the ITF Futures event in the country.
