DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Jan 6: According to a statistical data, the overall crimes graph of the D.I. Khan district declined during the year 2001 as compared to the year 2000.
During 2001, a total of 3,484 cases were registered with district police as compared to 3,589 in 2000.
Comparative statistics show that during 2001, 90 murder cases, 146 attempts on life, 29 elopement, 66 burglary, six vehicle thefts, 15 motorcycle thefts, 33 fatal accidents and 681 miscellaneous crime cases were registered with various police stations of the district as compared to 94 murders, 119 attempts on life, 36 elopement, 76 burglary, eight vehicle thefts, 24 motorcycle thefts, 41 fatal accidents and 536 miscellaneous crime cases during 2000.
During the year 2001, 99.720 kilograms of charas, 15.495 kilograms of opium, 2.014 kilograms of heroin and 1123 bottles of liquor were recovered and seized whereas during 2000, the quantities were 63.627kg, 31.631kg, 1.360kg and 1,945 bottles respectively.
A total of 764 firearms with 21,405 rounds/cartridges were also recovered during year just ended as compared to 659 firearms and 14,948 rounds/cartridges recovered during the year 2000. Out of 693 proclaimed offenders, 89 were arrested or they surrendered themselves.
During the same period, two cases of dacoities, 23 robbery cases, 66 burglary cases and 51 theft cases were registered with a total loss of (as reported) Rs44,96,080.
A total of 90 cases were traced out and during investigation of these cases, 116 persons were arrested and Rs18,30,397 recovered.
INVESTIGATION ORDERED: The Regional Accountability Bureau has ordered an investigation into the assets, accounts and earnings of a number of government employees and politicians who have allegedly accumulated wealth through illegal means.
Through a special directive addressed to DCO, Dera, and the local army chief, related agencies and departments have been asked to collect proof against corrupt officers and politicians for bringing them under the accountability net.
The local revenue department has submitted its final report against a former MPA and two police officers.
Some unidentified killers had already gunned down one of the police officers, a few months ago, and the other is serving as DSP at Dera Ismail Khan. Efforts to nab the others are in full swing.
