KARACHI, May 2: A meeting chaired by the City Nazim here on Monday, reviewed the problems of Mauripur and Hawksbay truck stands. The meeting was informed that illegal encroachments had been removed from the Hawksbay truck stand.

It was pointed out that traffic problems were growing due to illegal parking at the Hawksbay and Mauripur Roads and loading and unloading of goods from containers.

It was informed that there was also need for improving the sewerage and security systems at the Hawksbay truck stand.

The meeting was told that construction of shops at the green belt of Hawksbay truck stand was the major cause for traffic jams at the Hawksbay Road. Illegal workshops and encroachments had badly affected the parking zone and green belt.

It was stated that required development work could not be carried out as per the plans of the defunct Traffic Engineering Bureau.

The city nazim ordered to set up a special task force for solving the problems of the truck stands.

The task force comprised EDOs transport, works, revenue, water and sanitation besides representatives of the traffic police and other departments. It was asked to submit its report to the city nazim within a month.

The meeting was attended by EDO Transport Dr Tahir Soomro, Director General Mass Transit Malik Zahirul Islam, EDO Master Plan Ateeq Baig, EDO Enterprise and Investment Promotion Raisuddin Paracha, President Karachi Goods Carrier Association Mohammed Ishaq Jan, General Secretary Javed Rashid, Asghar Arain and other representatives and officials.—APP
