KARACHI, May 2: The master plan for beautification of the I.I.Chundrigar road is still awaited since over a year when Sindh governor had directed the CDGK to prepare it in consultation with different utility organizations. Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan had issued the directives while presiding over a high-level meeting at the governor’s house back in December 2003.

The meeting had discussed measures for beautification of I.I.Chundrigar Road and other link roads and streets.

State Bank Governor Dr Ishrat Hussain, the then chief secretary Dr Muttawakil Kazi, principal secretary Brig E Akhtar Zamin, Naib-Nazim Tariq Hasan, additional chief secretary Mohammed Saleem Khan, the then DCO Mir Hussain Ali, then KWSB MD Brig Asif Ghazali, KBCA Chief Controller Brig A.S.Nasir, besides senior officials of railways, KPT, KESC and other departments had attended that meeting.

The governor had asked the DCO to submit a master plan within three weeks. The railways, KESC, Water Board, SSGC and the PTCL were asked to inform about their future schemes for the I.I.Chundrigar Road within 15 days.

It was further decided that a traffic management plan be prepared for I.I. Chundrigar Road, M.A. Jinnah Road and Maulvi Tamizuddin Khan Road (Queens Road) and carry out beautification and improvement work of I.I. Chundrigar Road in the light of the same.

The proposed traffic management plan was to be prepared with the cooperation of the city government’s traffic engineering bureau and the traffic police.

Currently, the I.I.Chundrigar road is being repaired at some points as it had caved in few months back.—PPI
