Acting SBP Treasurer

KARACHI, May 2: The federal government has notified posting of Zafar M. Shaikh, Head of Treasury and Exchange & Debt Management Department of the State Bank, as Additional Director General Debt Office in the Finance Division. He took charge of his new office from Monday. The notification issued by the government says Mr Shaikh has got his new assignment on deputation from the central bank for two years. Sources in Ministry of Finance told Dawn he would assist Director General Debt Office, Dr Ashfaque H. Khan in managing internal and external debt of the country.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the SBP said Suleman Chhagla, Head of Risk Management, will officiate as acting head of treasury and Exchange & Debt Management Department of the SBP till the position is filled in.

Mr Chhagla will also continue to discharge his duties as head of Risk Management. He took up his additional assignment from Monday. The central bank is looking for a suitable candidate to for the post of head of treasury and EDMD and has invited applications from prospective candidates.
