LAHORE, Aug 28: The committee formed by the Punjab government to monitor implementation of the industrial policy will hold its maiden meeting on Friday (today).

Punjab Chief Minister’s adviser Jehangir Tareen will preside over the committee meeting, set up in order to remove snags and irritants in the way of implementation of the industrial policy announced in the last week of June.

In order to make the policy a success, the government has also named prominent businessmen like Tariq Saigol, Mian Muhammad Mansha, Gohar Ejaz, Shahid Abdullah, Chaudhry Muhammad Arshad and presidents of the chambers of commerce and industry of Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Multan, Sialkot and Gujranwala on the committee.

The new industrial policy does away with the old system of inspection of industrial units by labour inspectors and replaces its with a new system of self-declaration by the businessmen.
