KARACHI: Former world amateur snooker champion Mohammad Asif made amends of Monday’s loss while registering a century break against United States’ Ahmed Aly Elsayed in the International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) World Snooker Championship at Doha on Tuesday.

According to results made available here, Asif’s elegant break of 116 came in the second frame as he routed his opponent straight 64-24, 129-10, 73-58, 84-28 to win his third match in four outings.

He also became the first Pakistani cueist to compile a century break in the ongoing event.

Meanwhile, Pakistan No 1 Asjad Iqbal inched closer towards making it to the knockout stage when he brushed aside Polish cueist Grzegorz Biemadski straight (64-22, 65-6, 69-22, 85-21) to stay unbeaten in his group.

Debutant Mubashir Raza, meanwhile, suffered his first defeat when he went down 2-4 to Qatar’s Ahmed Saif. The latter was home 67-15, 70-63, 84-5, 50-77, 16-73, 81-0.

Reigning junior world champion Mohammad Naseem Akhtar lost to Thai cueist Yuttapop Pakpoj 1-4 to taste second defeat in the group. The Thai won the battle 5-76, 71-0, 117-0, 69-10, 61-41.

As far as master’s event is concerned, veteran player and former world champion Mohammad Yousuf delighted the fraternity of his yesteryears performance.

The 65-year-old Yousuf swept aside Australian Chris Todd 3-1 the scores being 66-23, 69-18, 62-69, 62-37 to stretch his unbeaten run.
